In this philatelic issue, the first stamp shows a barrosã cow, a herd in a shift system and the shaking of the straw after the mesh; the second seal shows a granary in Sirvozelo, the shaking of the straw after the mesh, and the oven of the People of Tourém; the philatelic block, in turn, shows a photograph of the heights of the clay, in Trás-os-Montes and corrals of Reigoso.
According to Manuel Orlando Fernandes Alves, Mayor of Montalegre, “through this philatelic issue, Portugal and the world will have eyes for such an impressive rurality and the whys of FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) will be better understood ) have distinguished us as the only region in Portugal considered as World Agricultural Heritage. The FAO's distinction, now expressed in philatelic insertion, is the best tribute of the many who committed themselves in this cause can pay to the Men and Women who, through the ages, made this exemplary marriage of Barrosão with Nature, leaving us all the responsibility to preserve it and make it known as an example to be replicated elsewhere.”
According to Raul Moreira, Philately Director at CTT, “this issue is one of the most accomplished graphic interpretations of postal and philatelic values this year, making it possible to make Portugal and the world known about this very precious heritage that needs to be preserved ”.
This philatelic issue consists of two stamps with a face value of €0.68 and €0.70 and a print run of 100,000 copies each, and a philatelic block with a stamp with a value of €2.50 and 35,000 copies each. . The design of the stamps was in charge of Fernando Pendão of Atelier Prior&Pendão. The first-day obliterations will be carried out in Restauradores stores in Lisbon, Municipality II in Porto, Zarco in Funchal, Antero de Quental in Ponta Delgada and CTT Montalegre Store.
